Welcome to R-FAKTOR. DAS UNFASSBARE, the show that will change your life! On the boards that can mean the world, where fantasy can become reality, today reality will become fantastically plastic: unbelievably believable. The r-factor! Fact or fiction. You decide. Because that’s the main question our charismatic host will ask in this political late-night talk show as she guides us through testimonials from artists who are all read as ‘non-white’ – and who all share one thing: encounters with the r-factor, i.e. racism and its reproduction. The disbelief of those who as the majority in society claim the interpretive authority over the truth content of other people’s experiences and can’t believe the kinds of things their colleagues have to deal with every day is the starting point in Ayşe Güvendiren’s production for an uncomfortable piece of grotesque theatre, which with humour and sharp wit really gets under the skin of the art sector’s self-image as tolerant and pluralist. For R-FAKTOR, Güvendiren carried out interviews with 30 BIPoC* artists and culture professionals, which in the form of the production and from a self-empowered position ask the audience to judge their experiences.
Ayşe Güvendiren, born in 1988 in Vienna, studied law, theatre studies and art history before she began her training as a director at the Otto Falckenberg School in Munich. She was an assistant director at the Münchner Kammerspiele in the 20/21 season. Her diploma production R-FAKTOR. DAS UNFASSBARE won the Körber Studio Young Director’s prize in 2021.
*BIPoC is the abbreviation for Black, Indigenous, People of Color.
